DIRECTOR FLORES INTENSIFIES PROMOTION OF MR-SIA

Dr. Corazon I. Flores, Officer-In-Charge/Director IV of the Department of Health – Metro Manila Center for Health Development today promotes the upcoming Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) on a live special coverage interview via Zoom by veteran radio broadcaster Allan Allanigue of Radyo Pilipinas of DZRP-AM 738 kHz.

Dir. Flores states that the supplemental immunization campaign will be conducted in Metro Manila and various regions in the country on February 1 to 28 to ensure that children are protected from measles and rubella and from an impending outbreak of these diseases amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Measles is a viral disease that may cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis and may also result to death explains Dir. Flores.

Dir. Flores appeals to parents, caregivers and guardians of children aged 9 months to less than 5 years old to bring their children to the health centers and temporary vaccination posts for the additional dose of measles-rubella vaccine. The vaccines are proven safe and effective, Dir. Flores emphasizes.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, “may banta pa rin ng measles outbreak,” Dir. Flores says.

With the situation due to pandemic, Dir. Flores ensures that Minimum Public Health Standards in accordance to the BIDA Solusyon campaign of the DOH will be strictly observed specifically in the vaccination sites.
